Rock the Boat

Event Date

In the 1960s, Freedom Riders in the southern United States boarded buses to protest an injustice.  In 2008, an international group of Freedom Riders boarded boats in the Mediterranean Sea, to protest another ongoing injustice. The human rights activists were disappointed in their governments' failure to apply international law to bring justice to the region. Their goal was to shine light on the collective punishment of over 1.5 million civilians.

Filmmaker Kathy Elliott tells the story of a small group of determined human rights activists who partner with the civil society in Gaza, and embark on a month long odyssey to attempt to reach the imprisoned population there.

Q&A Discussion with Filmmaker Kathy Elliott and Palestinian-American attorney and co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement Huwaida Arraf.
